Camp L.E.A.D...Leaders & Entrepreneurs Achieve Dreams
Camp LEAD LLC is a program that seeks to educate, empower, and equip youth with thenecessary tools to become successful academically and professionally. The program focuses ondeveloping leadership skills, a mindset of entrepreneurship, and a heart for community service. Thedevelopment of an entrepreneurial mindset has to do with our youth succeeding whether theypursue higher education, enter the workforce, or become entrepreneurs. The program seeks to empower each youth to develop thought processes and actions that lead to economic success, a sense of citizenship in their communities but also to create opportunities for growth for themselves as well as others. Using guided discussions, experiential learning activities, and community service projects youth will complete this camp with a greater understanding of their role as leader in their homes, communities, and schools. Youth will be taught the importance of forming positive and productive collaborations with peers, counselors, and community partners for the purposes of accomplishing a task and/or obtaining a goal. Youth participating in Camp LEAD will be challenged to take initiative, become creative and innovative in their thinking, and to be assertive in their pursuits for success.
Camp Lead is founded on the fundamental belief that youth who are provided with leadership andentrepreneurship education develop a cross-curriculum appreciation and understanding, of theimportance of building academic success and skill development. 'Camp Lead believes thatentrepreneurship training provides youth with options besides being an employee with littleopportunity and instills stronger value and personal investment.'
Research have determined that an entrepreneurship program, or supplement, can be an importanttool for youth, for it takes the emphasis off, "why do we have to learn this" and puts it on "here iswhere this will be beneficial for you to know this." The saying, "it takes money to make money"may be true, but more so than this, it takes knowledge!
Entrepreneurship education helps youth by raising their literacy rate, increasing proficiency inmath, improves work ethic, creates a sense of responsibility and self-independence, helps them tobalance "team" and "self" attitudes and approaches to problem solving, develops creative thinkingskills, builds on students’ strengths, encourages overcoming their weaknesses, improves technicalskills, and increases community service and awareness. 'Camp Lead was built on these premisesand will challenge all'campers to participate fully. '
Campers will participate in daily group activities that provide age-appropriate content as well asexperiential learning activities. 'The campers i will be placed in groups the first week of camp andwill be responsible for developing and presenting a business plan. 'Each week they will be walked through sections of the Business by camp counselors and local entrepreneurs. Campers will receive training in leadership and the importance of community service. 'Camp Lead will have educators teaching in the areas of math, reading, and writing daily. Fun and enriching activities will be coordinated each week. 'Campers can earn student service-learning hours for any communityservice they complete during the camp
